- Availability - In which is the locomotive available for purchase. The engines are introduced at a random year within the period listed each time a game is played.
- Building Cost - How much the locomotive costs to purchase.
- Speed - How fast the engine travels, in miles per hour.
- Power at Drawbar - How heavy a load the locomotive can pull, measured in horse power. Higher horse power means the engine can pull more cars without slowing down.
Note that there are other more discrete specifications for each locomotive, and details about these can be found in the specification pages. The engines listed appear in both Railroad Tycoon and Railroad Tycoon Deluxe, unless noted.
